First of all one of the characteristics of a good doctor is that they will listen to your concerns and provide you with hope and inspiration. They need to understand that their ability to inspire and motivate you is one of the most powerful tools they have.

This is a question that I get quite often.  It is important to know that I am not a very social animal and do not circulate widely around the country to know the best clinicians out there. However even if I were the most social person in the country I would still not be able to answer this question consistently.

HOWEVER, I do hope to develop a system that allows our community to identify the good doctors. We have two dozen full time software developers currently and I am in the process of tripling that number in a year as our revenues increase.  This will allow us to develop programs that will allow the community to provide the best recommendation.

Of course there are many legal issues we need to work through, but I do hope to have that system in place in the next 1-2 years.

What can you do in the meantime?

My recommendation would be to contact your local health food store and obtain a recommendation from a number of the employees. I would find out when the manager and other employees would be there and make it a point to return at that time or call the store. Typically people interested in health will come into that store and share their experiences with the store employees so that is the best way to find what your local community has voted as the best.

My only caution is that there are very few MDs and DOs that understand natural medicine. If you find a good one consider yourself blessed. Alternatively naturopaths and chiropractors have excellent training programs and for all but the serious of illnesses they are typically a far better choice. If you are still taking medications it would be best to find someone with a license and training that will allow you to carefully wean off of them and replace natural lifestyle options to address the underlying cause.

Many naturopaths or NDs have this training but only if they went to a four year ND medical school. There are only five, Bastyr, Southwest, National, the Canadian College. and Connecticut. So if you are seeing an ND and are on drugs it would be best to find a graduate of these schools as they have the most comprehensive training.  Actually the minority of NDs are from these schools so be careful if you are taking medications.

I have a question.  I live in West Virginia and GOOD DOCTORS THAT KNOW WHAT THEIR DOING IS VERY HARD TOO FIND.  I went through an assault and have noticed several problems through my xrays and My pain has gotten worse evryday I find numerous pills to stop my pain because the one thing they gave me that helped they stopped giving it too me because it was a class a drug and they said the doctor wasn't suppose to give it too me.  I have gotten worse SEVERELY!  And I have researched my own symptoms since doctors are inadequate here.  They keep telling me its in my head, I wish it was then it wouldn't hurt so bad.  Its in my right shoulder, my upper spine, and my right arm.  It sounds like three things and I'm doctor so I cannot test myself for them. 1) Fibromayalgia.  2)  Carpal Tunnel.  3) Disk Degenerative disease.
I have seen chiropractors who told me they could not treat me because I was getting worse.  Physical therapists who told me the same and that I have some weird feeling in my right shoulder they cannot figure out and the neurolist for my migraines said he didn't know what to do.  I have been to so many doctors and still looking and they all say they will help me and then when they see I have issues with my back they do different.  I cannot sleep, work, (and I have to to pay bills), drive.  I am getting worse and I know and feel it everyday and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out on my own what's wrong and who should I see to get it taken care of.  We have so many doctors here who are quick to give you drugs then to actually find out whats wrong and treat you.  I just don't want to give up hope I want someone to tell me what can I do and how to look for help.  Do you think you can help me?
Sincerely:
Melinda Snuffer

Three great websites to locate Homeopathic Doctors are:
International Directory of Homeopaths-http://www.hpathy.com/dirhomeopath/index.asp
National Center for Homeopathy- www.homeopathic.org
www.homeopathicdoctor.com
All of these you can run a search for state or local homeopathy treatment in your area.

ATTENTION: ALL ILLINOIS READERS!!

House Bill 498, the Naturopathic Physicians Medical Practice Act, is scheduled for its 2nd (and final) reading in the House Registrations and Regulations committee this month (April).

As you know, Naturopathic doctors are the most comprehensively trained practitioners of complementary and alternative medicine. Residents of Illinois seeking naturopathic treatment deserve the peace of mind, protection, and assurance that their provider has achieved established education and medical training standards. Passage of this bill would also help legitimize the field and play a part in changing the current medical paradigm from one of “sick-care” to “health-care” I urge you to contact your state Representative on this committee to ask him/her to support HB 498.

I called the co-sponsors of this bill to thank them and they said the AMA is fighting passage of this bill tooth and nail. Apparently, they don’t want us to have options other than pharmaceuticals...

We can be the change we want to see! Remember, our elected officials serve at the pleasure of us – we the people – their job is to represent our interests. Let them hear us loud and clear on this vital issue – we choose health!!

Details can be found at http://capwiz.com/naturopathic/callalert/index.tt?alertid=9583991&queueid=[capwiz:queue_id]

Thanks!
